My first healing in Christian Science, five years ago, proved to me the allness of God. I was healed instantaneously when I had been given only about three weeks to live. I was suffering from a severe mental breakdown. A short while previous to this two copies of the Christian Science Sentinel were given me by a lady, and not wishing to offend her I accepted them with the thought that this must be some new doctrine she had found. Until then I had never heard of Christian Science, so I took the Sentinels home and laid them carefully away, thinking I might look over them sometime when I had nothing else to do.

A few months later I was taken very ill. I decided to have a thorough examination made by a good physician. The diagnosis was, "A severe attack of inflammation of the nerves." I left the doctor's office with a prescription and a warning that I must make a big fight to overcome this ailment. I returned home and studied a medical dictionary with the intention of finding out the best way to get well. As I had worked for the medical profession for a number of years and had always enjoyed my work, the thought came, Since I have nursed others satifactorily, why not nurse myself?

I started in to study the human body, and with the help of the medical dictionary I soon landed myself in fear of every description. A very acute attack of insomnia set in, and for the following three months I slept hardly any. A slow fever manifested itself; and, along with night sweats, continuous vomiting and dysentery caused me to lose flesh rapidly. Just as I was beginning to see nothing but the grave to end my troubles, "a still small voice" said, Look into the Sentinels you have laid away. I hunted them up and read them; and what first appealed to me was the number of times the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was mentioned; and especially the word "Health" seemed to hold me.
