Children of God
One of the most cruel, unjust decrees, and one to which mortals cling tenaciously, is that which says that the innocent must suffer for or with the guilty. Like every other falsity of evil, this belief is a breach of the Ten Commandments, implying as it does that God, divine Principle, is unjust, and the cause of suffering to the innocent. But God, being infinite good, can no more produce suffering than He can experience it Himself.
One of the great truths learned in Christian Science is that God is Love. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read on page 140: "The Jewish tribal Jehovah was a man-projected God, liable to wrath, repentance, and human changeableness. The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death."
Sometimes when a family seems to be undergoing a prolonged period of testing, when the problem of lack apparently besieges it with almost endless claims, the argument assails a parent with the suggestion that his children are in want because of his failure to complete his own demonstration. If this suggestion is listened to and given place and power, instead of adding to his store of courage and strength it is an unseen marauder robbing him of his joy and peace as well as of his ability to reflect good.
