I wish to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science. It is twelve years since I first heard of it. As a child, I had always been trying to think things out for myself. I became a member of the Established Church of Scotland, to which my parents belonged. Religion, however, seemed to puzzle me, and I could not understand the Bible. After I was married and had children of my own, my greatest desire for them was that they should have something more reliable than I had. I began to think very seriously, and soon found that the church no longer could satisfy me. I became restless and disappointed, my health gave way, and the Bible remained a closed book.

It was in this condition that Christian Science found me. I went to the Christian Science church one Sunday evening, and what arrested my attention most was that well-known text, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It was illuminated for me. I knew from that moment that there was Truth to know, and that Christian Science would lead me to this Truth. I borrowed the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to study. It all seemed most beautiful, but I could not understand it.

Some time after this, I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help. During one week's treatment, the revelation of the spiritual idea gently unfolded to me. A great joy permeated my whole being. I saw Life, God, outside of all materiality; in the words of John, "I saw a new heaven and a new earth." God, good, became a living presence to me. In this wonderful illumination I was healed of a great sense of exhaustion, and of insomnia, from which I had suffered for a very long time. Since then I have had many proofs of the healing power of Truth, both for myself and for others. My greatest gratitude of all is for the light of spiritual being which has come to me, and for an increased understanding of divine Love, which meets every need. A deep peace has come with this; and the Bible has been restored to me. The works of our Master, Jesus the Christ, are revealed in all their spiritual beauty.
