Although I am but sixteen years of age, a word of gratitude from me may strengthen and encourage some one who is still struggling with school problems. During the fall of 1918, I desired to complete a grade and a half during the nine months' term of school. Everything seemed to go very well for a few weeks. Then the school authorities informed us that school would be closed for a period because of an epidemic. I asked permission to take some books home to study during the cessation of school, but the principal would not grant it. When I told my father of this he said: "You have all the books you need here at home. Study the Bible and 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.' " This put new light on the subject, because the thought came to me that if I made Christian Science my first thought and school work secondary, I should not have any difficulty about my school work. During the three months and a half that the school was closed, I studied the Bible together with Science and Health; and I went back to school with such a clear sense of God as the all-knowing and all-acting intelligence that I completed the desired grade and a half in the remaining months of the term.

Besides helping me in my studies, Christian Science has protected me from painful injuries on the athletic field, in the chemical laboratory, and in my daily work. For all of these blessings I am very grateful; but I am most grateful that my parents took up the study of this scientific religion while I was a small child, as it shows me how to avoid many discordant beliefs. Above all, it has shown me how to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus, as demonstrated and pointed out by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in her writings on Christian Science.
