Christian Science is, as its name states, Science
Mercury
Christian Science is, as its name states, Science. Two requisites are necessary in any one who professes to have a knowledge of any science,—the understanding of its rules, and the ability to apply, to the extent of his understanding, such rules in practice. The schoolboy taking up the study of mathematics has to be instructed in its rules and shown how to work them out. The same is true of any one taking up the study of Christian Science. Just as we come to the knowledge of any of the sciences through explanations which we understand, so we come to the knowledge of God, or the divine Principle of all being, through the explanations which make this Principle clear to us. This explanation is gained from its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the book which contains genuine Christian Science teaching, its rules and practice. The proper understanding of this subject can come only through spiritual sense; but it gives a knowledge which the student can utilize in connection with every problem which arises in his daily life, whether it be sickness, sin, lack, business worries, discomfort, or inharmony of any other sort.
Applying the term "Principle" to God does not mean that He is a cold abstraction, but rather the divine Mind, Love. Christian Science shows how the true idea of God was taught by the master Christian as coming to save men from the effects of their wrong beliefs. Jesus taught this by words and deeds, by parable and miracle. It will be remembered that he said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," thus asserting that any one, with the true knowledge of God, could use his knowledge in correcting his own mistakes and the mistakes of others, in healing sickness and sin.
