The Lectures

Los Angeles, Calif. (Third Church).—Following are the prefatory remarks made by Mr. A. W. Eckman at a Christian Science lecture:—

To-day the nations of the world are blindly striving by means of alliances, conferences, and leagues to end all wars, and to establish a permanent peace "to the children of men." These efforts are measurably helpful, and are to be commended; but, judging by past experiences, until universal righteousness prevails there is little hope of permanent peace. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says on page 340 in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars. ..." If this statement is correct, is it not imperative that all races come to understand and worship this one infinite God, about whom we are to hear to-night? Strong evidence of the correctness of her statement, even in our present experience, is shown by the happy relations which have existed for more than a century between England and the United States, whose concepts of God most nearly coincide.
