[Written for the Sentinel]

Upon the Wave

Softly the new light
Falls upon sweet Galilee;
Gently the true light
Brightens all the sea.
In the truth's vast splendor
Jesus walks upon the wave,
Speaking words so tender,
Words with power to save.

When, in the seeming,
Storms arise upon the sea,
And in our dreaming
We are far from thee,
Wilt thou not, great Master,
Quiet restless, human will?
Save from all disaster
With thy "Peace, be still."
