It is with a heart full of gratitude and love to God, Christ Jesus, and our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I send this testimony of my healing through the study and application of Christian Science, as given in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. After having spent many years trying to study the Bible and know God's will concerning me, I was stricken down and lay in a hospital ten weeks. After six weeks of my stay there I was operated on, but failed to get any better and grew worse. The incision did not heal and a bowel trouble developed. I was moved to my home and continued to grow still worse, and the doctor said I would have to return to the hospital or I would never recover.

This was very discouraging to both my husband and myself, so we decided to have another doctor. His verdict was that in all probability if I underwent another operation I would never leave the operating table alive, and that in five or six years I might get well if I did not go crazy. This is where Christian Science found me four years ago. During my stay in the hospital I had a dear friend, a young student in Christian Science, who visited me every day. One day she brought me a Christian Science Sentinel among other reading matter. I had never read a word of Christian Science in my life and did not know it claimed to heal the sick, and had a contempt for all things pertaining to its study, as I had been a member of another church for many years and loved it better than anything on earth; but I had the greatest respect and much love for this friend.

After all else failed I turned to God. I told my maid I was going to bed and stay there until death claimed me. I thought I had better begin to get ready to meet my Lord, so laid the Bible and the Sentinel on the bed. After trying to read the Bible I picked up the Sentinel and began reading the headlines of the different articles, which did not mean a thing to me until I turned to where it said "Testimonies of Healing;" and I began to read. Maybe I read three of the testimonies when I got up, dressed myself, made the bed, walked to the kitchen, told the girl, who was surprised to see me, that I was up for life; and so it has been. I have never spent another day in bed. I began the study on Friday, and on Monday had my first treatment by a kind, loving practitioner who gave me that hope that "maketh not ashamed," which Paul tells us about.
