I did not take up the study of Christian Science because of physical healing, but because of my search for Truth. When at school, many things taught seemed so contradictory that I had almost given up believing there was a God, and for some years my only prayer was that I might have light.
Christian Science came to me like a great light. I was staying with a friend in London, who asked if I would care to go with her to a service in a Christian Science church. I said I would be very glad to go. At this time I did not know anything about Christian Science, but I asked if I might look at the book I had seen her reading. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was given me. I started to read, and at once saw this was the light for which I had been praying. I attended the service, and it was a wonderful experience to me. I felt absolutely at home—as if I had always been there. This sense of home has always remained, no matter where I have been; and I have found all of Mrs. Eddy's writings such wonderful friends, especially when I have been much alone.
I am very glad that I was enabled to come to Christian Science with unprejudiced mind, as this opened the way for immediately accepting its teachings, and all the great blessings this brings. What I am most grateful for is the better understanding of God that Christian Science is giving me. It has helped me in every way, morally as well as physically. I have been instantaneously healed of a burn; severe toothache has disappeared; fear during air raids has been cast out; chilblains have been healed. Christian Science has given me strength during different trying experiences. It has healed sorrow and the sense of separation, and has given instead a great sense of joy and happiness, proving that the only thing worth while is to know God.
