The Star-News
Christian Scientists do not ignore the claims of disease, but immediately handle such claims in the same manner that Jesus and his disciples did, namely, by destroying them through the spiritual understanding of the allness of God. Your contributor reitereates a thoroughly untrue and disproved statement to the effect that the lives of little children are sacrificed through the practice of Christian Science, whereas the very reverse is true. Under Christian Science treatment little children are particularly free from the usual childhood ailments and they are enabled to develop into sturdy boys and girls without the attendant fears, accidents, and injuries that usually accompany such periods.
In a recent survey of child fatalities conducted in Southern California a neighboring city produces the following statistics gained from an examination of the health office records and from the results of the practice of Christian Science. In this community the records show there are about one hundred physicians and forty-three Christian Science practitioners. The death rate among children between the ages of one and sixteen years during the year 1920 under materia medica was one hundred and one, while under the practice of Christian Science not a single child fatality occurred.
Christian Science is proving its Christian origin and foundation by simultaneously healing the sick and redeeming the sinner, as in the days of Jesus. In this connection Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, declares in her work "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 248), "Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, love—the kingdom of heaven—reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear."
