[Written for the Sentinel]

The Liberator

O wondrous Love, thy holy power
Releases me
From all the stinging, clinging pains
That seem to be.

If God is Love, then Love is power,
Protecting me;
I need not fear when Love is near,
Nor lonely be.

The power of Love doth liberate
From darkest woe,
From seeming grief and bitter tears
That sadly flow.

Sweet harmony doth come to me
Through Love's great power;
So God's dear love I must reflect
In every hour.

My brother's need I must relieve
With loving care;
To follow where the Christ, Truth, leads
Must be my prayer.

"Love one another," Jesus said,
"As I love you;"
If I thus love, the world shall know
That I am true.

And as I love, and lift some load
Of sorrow grim,
From off the shoulder of a friend,
I follow him.

"Thy will be done;" Thou willest good
To me and all;
May I, with joy, haste to respond
To Love's sweet call.

Love's power doth lift from out the gloom
The saddest heart;
Freedom from pain and peace of mind
Doth Love impart.
