I am grateful for the privilege of adding my testimony...

I am grateful for the privilege of adding my testimony to the many I have read in the Sentinel and Journal in the past few years. I have many times been healed and uplifted through the realization, in a degree, of the meaning of the word gratitude. Through the reading and study of the Bible, and the affirmation and realization of the truth as taught in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was healed of a severe attack of influenza and was able to get up, eat a little breakfast, and go to church the next morning, and by noon I was perfectly normal. I have also been healed of severe colds.

I have learned something of what it means to reflect God—Life, Truth and Love—and this endeavor has made me less critical, more loving, more patient, and more tolerant. My need has not been so great for physical healing as for mental regeneration, and I am so grateful that through Christian Science it has been possible to overcome mental laziness to some extent and to realize the need for alertness and consecration. When feeling a very great sense of responsibility, I met a friend as I was leaving church after the morning service, and the word was used in conversation, and she said she would like to give the definition of it as it had been given to her: "Response to God's ability." I wish I might find words with which to express my gratitude for that definition of a word which had always before meant burden, care, and heaviness, for it showed me instantly that God requires that we express only divine qualities in our daily experience.

I have been enabled in some measure to help others, and I can truthfully say that for this I am more grateful than for all else. When I have been discouraged, depressed, or beset with problems of various sorts, I have often taken up one of our periodicals and have read the testimonies of gratitude to God for the understanding of Christian Science which has enabled the writers to solve their difficulties, and have found my own problem lessened or my viewpoint so changed that I was equipped to go forward and complete the work.
