When first Christian Science was presented to me I was...

When first Christian Science was presented to me I was not ready to accept it; but after four years of "trials and tribulations" I found that, in the words of Mrs. Eddy, "the sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science" (Science and Health, p. 322). Our three-year-old daughter illustrated clearly to me the outcome of attempting to serve two masters. She was cutting out a picture having a lady on either side. Wishing to keep both ladies she would first cut one side awhile, then the other, with the result that both were spoiled. For nearly two years have I striven to serve God, good, and as I look back over the long list of human woes that have disappeared into their native nothingness there remains not the slightest doubt to me that Christian Science is the promised "Comforter." Every day I truly strive to learn and demonstrate more of this truth, for I know, as Mrs. Eddy says in "Unity of Good" (p. 49),"So long as I hold evil in consciousness, I cannot be wholly good."

On page 54 of the same book our Leader also says, "To be healed, one must lose sight of a false claim." Among the false claims of mortal mind that have been destroyed for my husband, baby, and myself, through the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, are constipation, tonsillitis, neuralgia, rupture, colds, a habit from childhood, and influenza. We made a beautiful demonstration over my husband's former occupation, with much good to all concerned. I am most grateful for the opportunity of testifying, through the literature, to our spiritual, moral, and physical healing; also for having been able to help others to prove the power of Truth. As I grow day by day my reverence for Mrs. Eddy also grows. Her writings, the Bible, and the literature published by The Christian Science Publishing Society are the sunshine of my life.
