Some four years ago I reached a condition of almost complete helplessness resulting from a claim of rheumatism which had held me in bondage for some ten months, during which I had tried every remedy known to materia medica and found no relief, but instead was getting worse all the time. It was then that Christian Science was recommended to me. I at first refused it on account of my connection with a denominational church which had been dear to me for forty years and which I felt I could not allow anything to interfere with. After some persuasion on the part of friends who advised me to try it, as I had nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain, I consented to give it a trial. A practitioner was sent for. She called at three different times during a period of some ten days and continued treatment for about three weeks, at which time I was able to resume my regular work, and from that time to the present I have been entirely free from sickness of any kind. Neither have I taken any medicine of any kind. In addition to being healed of rheumatism I have also been healed of two ailments that I had been troubled with for years and which had become chronic. These claims were indigestion and constipation and I was compelled to take medicine every day or I would suffer. I had to be very careful also as to what I ate. This condition has all been changed, and I am now free from all these troubles, and can eat anything that is fit to eat.

These are the benefits I have received in a physical way, which are as nothing when compared with the spiritual uplift that I have received through the understanding of God that Christian Science has given me. The ability to realize the allness of God as Life, Truth, and Love, has kept me free from trouble of any kind. This was especially helpful to me during the war with Germany, when I had two sons over there and at the front, but I knew that God fills all space and was as much present on the field of battle as He is anywhere and His protecting arm could keep them safely, and it did. Both of them returned after their hard experience in as perfect condition as they were when they entered the service. This thought was very comforting to me and eliminated all fear.

To day that I am very grateful to God and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who by her untiring efforts and love made these things possible, is speaking very mildly. I cannot find language sufficient to express my gratitude.
