When I first heard of Christian Science I was much prejudiced against what I thought it to be, but about six years ago I needed help both mentally and physically, and again this teaching was called to my attention. My eyesight seemed very bad and I was in an extremely nervous condition, suffering terribly with my head. A dear friend who was a Christian Scientist came in, and I complained to her that I had searched the Bible over and over and could not find any place where Jesus said his healing power should stop, therefore I saw no reason why it was not being done now. She immediately explained that Christian Science was doing this healing work and offered to lend me Science and Health. My eyes had caused me so much pain I believed I could only see a few lines at a time at night, but I became so interested in the chapter on Prayer that I forgot time, eyes, and everything else, and read over four hours. When I suddenly realized the time I became frightened, fearing I should suffer greatly for several days (not knowing the healing that was in the book), but next day I arose without any bad results and since then have been able to do all the reading I have wanted to do. The light has not affected me either, although I was wearing large blue glasses to protect my eyes. I was also healed of chronic bowel trouble.

That was over six years ago and I have never taken medicine since. My little daughter has been healed of chicken pox, measles, abscesses, and injuries. My husband was healed of a malignant growth on his lip, and I have had a number of other healings. One stands out in my thought as an example of the instantaneous power of Truth if rightly applied. I had just opened a new can of cleaning powder, supposed to be very powerful, when my foot slipped and I fell so violently against the wall that I rebounded, and as both feet went from under me I struck the floor with great force, and in falling the powder went into my hair and eyes. I began immediately to declare the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), but fear seemed to be quite strong, so I ran into another room and asked one who was also a Scientist to help me. In less than five minutes all sense of burning and smarting disappeared. I was able to open my eyes and go right on with my work, and it was not until I went to bed that night that I realized that my hip and shoulder to sense had been badly bruised.

I have had many wonderful blessings, but I believe the greatest blessing of all is the knowledge that the promises of Jesus were not only for his day but are just as effectual now and for all time if we obey his word and trust in God. Since studying Science and Health the Bible has become another book to me because I understand it better. I am so grateful to be living in the day and age when Mrs. Eddy made these truths clear to us. I am grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and for all our periodicals.
