I did not come into Christian Science for healing
I did not come into Christian Science for healing. As a stranger and wanderer with a feeling of unrest, I was led by a call from within to visit a Christian Science church one Sunday. I was so impressed with the service, the harmony and peace experienced, and the spiritual uplift, that I knew the call was answered. The following Wednesday evening found me at the testimony meeting, and it was in itself a demonstration for me to go out alone in the evening. I at once became a student of this teaching, and it has been a great privilege since then to study our Lesson-Sermons and to read all our literature; the articles on the Home Forum page of the Monitor on many occasions have not alone unfolded the spiritual import of the Bible but have given me many messages of healing.
My first healing proof was the overcoming of whooping cough and a bladder condition with the help of a practitioner. An attack of ptomaine poisoning was overcome overnight by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy; there were no ill effects in the morning. Glasses were worn for nearsightedness, long reading, or sewing sessions, but they have been laid aside. Now I can read and sew at longer sessions without any inconvenience. A foot trouble was slower in yielding, but thereby I gained a better understanding of Truth. Many years before coming into Science X-ray pictures were taken and the case was diagnosed by orthopedic specialists and the only cure was said to be an operation. A fluid which had secreted itself never had an outlet. I did not consent to the operation and the case was taken up with a practitioner when I came into Science. One day when I was on the street, halfway from home and a car line the pain became very severe. I was a beginner in Science, and there was nothing for me to do but stand still—then came a realization of the ever presence of God. I put into practice the little I understood and did the mental work the best I knew how, with the result that all sense of pain left and in less than ten minutes I was able to proceed. I arrived at my destination healed. On examination that evening it was apparent that the fluid had found its proper channel. The healing has been permanent and for it I am specially grateful. I am able to go out in the rain, climb ladders and stairs, and do many things which I had been told not to do.
At one time I was taken ill with an attack of throat trouble which was diagnosed as paralysis of the vocal cords by a specialist who was called in owing to the fear of the family. After he had visited me three days I scrawled a note on a piece of paper asking to have the case handled in Science. A practitioner was therefore called and in one visit I was healed. My voice returned in one hour and a half and all sense of pain disappeared. To prove the healing power of Truth I telephoned to my husband. I have not experienced anything other than normal conditions since.
