[Written for the Sentinel]

Christ's Ever Presence

I am the Way! E'en though thy path
With countless dangers seem beset,
Lo, in the midst of all I stand
Unmoved, all-knowing, with a hand
Outstretched to thee. Oh, understand
That I am with thee, with thee yet.

I am the Truth! No counterfeit
Of sin can hinder or delay.
Peaceful amid life's storm thou'lt sleep,
Deaf to the tempest, for the deep
To me no terror holds: I keep
A waking watch o'er thee alway.

I am the Life! Though death's cold hand
Should seem to snatch thy best from thee,
Joy that in God he lives, should prove
Twas more than flesh that gained thy love.
Such life no finite being knows;
It springs from Life divine and flows
To him and thee eternally.
