As a student of Christian Science it is my joy and privilege...
As a student of Christian Science it is my joy and privilege to express heartfelt gratitude for the many blessings that have come into my life through the faithful study and practical application of this beautiful truth. The first sentence in the Preface of Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," is a truth of which I make daily use.
I came to Christian Science four years ago in gratitude for the wonderful healing of my baby daughter, who was then two years and a half old. To mortal sense this little one had been dangerously ill for days, suffering from whooping cough and a complication of diseases caused by this malady. She was having the best of medical care and attention, but steadily and continually grew worse day by day; and when at last these most excellent physicians informed us that they had exhausted their skill and could do no more for her, my husband and I were in the depths of sorrow and despair, as we watched by the side of this little one, who was then in "the valley of the shadow of death." But God sent His angel and delivered us. At that time we had one among our friends who had been healed through the ministrations of Christian Science, and she recommended it to us and urged us to try it. At first we thought we could not trust our baby to it; but realizing that she was beyond all human aid, reluctantly and as a last and only resort we decided to do so, having, as we believed, much faith in God but none in Christian Science, for prior to this time we had never heard of this glorious teaching except to hear it ridiculed.
Quickly my husband telephoned to a practitioner, and in a very few moments after she commenced treatment a beautiful change took place. It seemed to me as if the Master had said, Baby, I say unto thee, Arise; for the pale little face grew pink, she noticed us, and wanted something to eat. From that moment her recovery was rapid and permanent, to the astonishment of all who knew her. This same child is now a happy, merry little girl of six years and a half, and has had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday school since she was old enough. She is herself a loyal little student, having a demonstrable understanding of this healing truth. Her beautiful healing was a milestone that marked a complete turning about, in which all things became new to us.
