To enumerate the many blessings which Christian Science...
To enumerate the many blessings which Christian Science has brought me would be, practically, to write the story of my life for the past year and a half. During that time no day has gone by without this healing truth helping me mentally, morally, physically, and even financially. It has indeed given me all things, given them to me in spite of the fact that when I began the study of this teaching I had for my object that which, in the final analysis, meant its destruction. Believing that Science was degraded by being considered in the same breath with religion, I felt certain that something fallacious must exist in the logic which would couple the terms Christian and Science; and I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" with the prime object of discovering its fallacies. That my search was fruitless is evidenced by the fact that to-day my sincerest desire is to know more of the truth as taught by this scientific religion.
Christian Science found me with no religion whatsoever and a materialist to the minutest detail. To-day it presents me buoyant with hope, with an unquestioned faith, firmly convinced of the existence of Deity, and with some understanding, at least, of the nature of this divine, all-inclusive Principle. It has brought me from the darkness of almost hopeless despair into the light of the "glorious liberty of the children of God."
Although I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, yet I needed it. At more or less frequent intervals I had been a sufferer from digestive troubles, which, as I grew older, became more frequent and more severe, always being accompanied by violent headaches. What is called intestinal stasis was finally added. Doctors had been consulted and much medicine taken, but with only temporary relief. An operation was finally submitted to, but the hoped for results did not materialize, and it was still necessary for me to take some kind of medicine every night. Six months after the operation, I commenced the study of Christian Science. Two weeks after I had read the Preface to Science and Health, I had gained some perception of the mental cause of disease and of the utter folly of trying to produce motion or action with inanimate drugs. With this realization I gave up the use of material remedies, and from that day to this have had no occasion to return to them. The healing was not instantaneous, but decided improvement was noted from the start; and in a remarkably short time, with treatment from a practitioner, the trouble was completely overcome. Throat trouble, headache, and many minor ailments have likewise vanished into their native nothingness.
