Christian Science has made such a great change in my...
Christian Science has made such a great change in my life that I feel it my duty to express some of my gratitude. About five years ago this teaching first came to my notice through reading copies of the Sentinel, which had been left from time to time at a police station where I went very often to have my lunch. I have been a church attendant as long as I can remember, as a pupil, chorister, Sunday school teacher, and later as a church officer; but in spite of all this, religion was vague, theoretical, and very unsatisfactory to me. In the Sentinels I found very good reading, which had a sound, reasonable basis, and impressed me, while explanations were given in the columns headed "Selected Articles" which removed many erroneous impressions and convinced me that I had found something worth knowing. I therefore went to the reading room to learn more of the subject and was delighted with the kindness and patience shown me by the librarian. I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, from the reading room and afterward from the public library.
I still continued as a church officer, but was undergoing great mental change. I began to find more and more that Christian Science is intensely practical, so bought a copy of the textbook; and since I got that book we have never had a doctor in our home. Finally I saw that I could not hold two opinions, and after about three years of reading and studying to find something wrong in Christian Science, I was convinced that it is all good; therefore I commenced to attened the church. My daughter is now a pupil in the Sunday school, and I hope the boy will also have that great privilege.
I have to thank Christian Science for a better knowledge of the Bible, which is a new book to me; for hope, confidence, entirely new thoughts about my fellow men, a better idea of manliness, and above all a growing understanding of our ever present Father-Mother God. A strong desire for tobacco has been replaced by a longing to know more of the truth that makes free.
