When Christian Science first came to my notice, it appealed...
When Christian Science first came to my notice, it appealed to me not for the healing but because it gave me the first clear understanding of God and of man's relation to Him. For several years I turned to the study of Christian Science only when in distress, but always received the relief and comfort I sought. I had been troubled with appendicitis, and on the occasion of three severe attacks my parents called in a doctor, who declared an operation necessary. These attacks were of from three to six weeks' duration, at which times I suffered intensely. When the fourth attack seized me, my family decided the doctor could do nothing for me aside from an operation, which they dreaded as much as I. Then, upon my request, a friend who had brought this healing truth to my notice was called on the telephone and asked to help me. One absent treatment in Christian Science healed me, so that I was able to resume my regular work the next day. That was ten years ago and there has not been even a hint of this trouble since.
Glasses had been worn for close work, intermittently, for several years, and after I began the earnest study of Christian Science it seemed proper for me to discontinue their use. As my eyes were swollen and headaches frequent, I asked for treatment from a practitioner. After two weeks she told me the work had been done, but I thought I could not lay aside the glasses, so much of a habit had they become. The following summer, while spending two weeks in the country, I dropped and broke the glasses and had to do without them. Some fine embroidery I had been working upon was continued, and to my surprise I found the glasses were not required; but I was so skeptical about my healing that upon returning to the city I had a specialist examine my eyes. He told me the sight was perfect.
Besides the above, I have been healed through Christian Science of many sorts of disturbances, among them sick headaches, catarrh of the head, and severe colds. Though thankful for these physical healings, I am most grateful because they have proved to me, beyond doubt, that I have found the true religion, which meets my every need.
