That which is absolute truth never was in reality new, but...
Australian Christian World
That which is absolute truth never was in reality new, but it is new to the consciousness of any one when first perceiving the same, just as any mathematical problem, however simple, is new to the consciousness of the schoolboy when first tackling it. Our Master came to "destroy the works of the devil," whom he described as "a liar, and the father of it," and the New Testament is full of accounts of the destruction of sickness, sin, and even death itself. There is no more reason for describing as an illusion the healing effects of Christian Science than there would be for stating that the woman who was healed of an issue of blood, or blind Bartimaeus, whose sight was restored, or any of the others who were healed by Jesus and his followers in the first three centuries of the Christian era, suffered from a delusion when health had been established.
The real question to be considered is, Are Christian Scientists healing in accordance with the law of God as Jesus and his apostles did, or are they not? Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them," and this is the standard by which Christian Scientists desire to be judged. Christian Scientists make practical the words of St. Paul, "All things are yours; and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's," by knowing through experience, to some extent at least, that every good and perfect gift, such as holiness, health, happiness, harmony, peace, and good will, cometh down from God, and that the real man as the child of God, made in His image and likeness, can and does express Him; or to quote from the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 518), "All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality—infinite Life, Truth, and Love."
That some persons seem at present unable to perceive any relation or relevancy between the passages of Scripture and the passages of the Christian Science text-book read at the Christian Science services, does not in any way prove that these are not related or relevant, but that such persons have as regards Christian Science not yet understood its teaching. Tens of thousands of persons in all parts of the world, as a result of their study of the Scriptures and of Mrs. Eddy's writings, particularly the text-book, have attained to a greater spiritual understanding and increased love of the former, and have been healed of all manner of diseases and all manner of sins, and they are constantly ready to testify thereto.
