In August, 1912, a cousin who had become a student of Christian Science the previous year, offered to treat me for a structural defect of the eye and a slight squint, from which I had suffered for about twelve years and for which a specialist had told me I would be obliged to wear glasses all my life. I gladly accepted the offer, without however thinking much about the matter beyond feeling that it would be very nice to leave off wearing glasses which only partially met my need, although I had had most careful attention from two London specialists and from others.
Very soon after my cousin began treatment I found that I could do better without the glasses than with them; and though the final healing is not yet absolutely apparent, my sight is much improved. I never wear glasses of any sort and am much more comfortable than I ever was with them. My eyes used to ache almost incessantly, but that difficulty is entirely overcome. For a time after treatment I wore glasses when reading small print, but my sight has improved since I threw them away.
I have not taken any material remedy for over three years. A very clear demonstration was given us over the apparent lack of supply. In 1914 an aunt who makes a quarterly addition to our income had forgotten to send us the usual September check, and we did not like to ask for it. We waited until Nov. 20, and then as we were greatly in need of money I went to a Christian Science practitioner, who enabled me to escape from my sense of fear and showed me that as God's child I cannot lack any good thing. I went home much comforted, and found that in my absence a friend had sent us her usual Christmas present early and in the form of a liberal check. Then two days later my aunt wrote to say that on the evening of the very day on which I had been to the practitioner she had been making up her accounts and had found that our check had been forgotten. She enclosed it, and told me not to hesitate to remind her should she ever forget it again.
