Ever since an inspiring demonstration which occurred some time ago I have been eager to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I was connected with a stock company, so that I had very little leisure, my time being absorbed in studying, rehearsing, and playing. For one or two days I was conscious of a painful sensation near my mouth, but I contented myself with trying to realize the truth and paid no further attention to the pain. However, on the third day an abscess developed, so I called up a Christian Science practitioner and asked for absent treatment. She said she would work for me at once, but I was to do my share by realizing that as God made only good there was no place for error, and that it was necessary for me to assert my dominion over it.

The other members of the company were full of sympathy and most solicitous, constantly inquiring if there was much pain. They said that my make-up would get into the wound and poision it when the abscess broke, but I remembered God's power and felt no fear. The next morning the swelling was larger than ever and I was suffering great pain. A relative asked me if I would not allow a doctor to lance it, but I said no, for I was putting my faith in God and not in a doctor. Perhaps this test was just what was needed, for ten minutes later the abscess broke on the inside of my mouth, and the swelling began to recede immediately.

My mouth was exceedingly tender where the wound was, so that it hurt me to eat, and when I called up the practitioner to tell her of my gratitude I said I could eat nothing which had to be chewed. She asked why, and when I explained she told me something that I shall always remember: "Whenever error tells you to do a certain thing, do the opposite and rob it of its power." For luncheon I ate steak and chewed it on that side of the mouth, even though it hurt a little; but after that the wound closed entirely and left me without a scar. This surprised every one who had no knowledge of the great power of divine Love. Christian Science has been a great help to me many times in my profession. I am indeed grateful for all its blessings, and for all the goodness of Mrs. Eddy.
