The apostle John says, "He that feareth is not made perfect...

The apostle John says, "He that feareth is not made perfect in love." When I began the study of Christian Science, I was so deep in bondage to fear that I seemed afraid of everything and everybody. I had an intense fear of death, and because of this would sit in my chair for hours at night, afraid to retire; but the understanding of God's love and presence immediately healed me of this fear, and I was able to retire and rest well. Again the apostle says, "Perfect love casteth out fear." I came to see that I had all fear and no love, and that this was the cause of my suffering; but I am glad to say that Christian Science is each day unfolding to me this "perfect love."

For years I had been dissatisfied with life and longed for something better. Each change that came I hoped would bring satisfaction, but I found no peace unitl I gained the right understanding of God as taught in Christian Science. Since learning even a little of how to love instead of fear God in times of sickness and trial, I have had that peace and joy "which passeth all understanding." When I took up the study of Christian Science I had an abdominal trouble for which I was wearing a support, and had undergone two operations without benefit. Soon after coming into Science, however, I was able to discard the support, and have had no further need of it.

My daily prayer is that I may so reflect divine Love that I may help others as I have been helped. I am willing to wait on God for that "perfect love," and say with our dear Leader, "Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine 'powers that be'" (Science and Health, p. 249). I am indeed grateful for all the blessing I have received, and for Mrs. Eddy's teachings, which enable us to prove in such a practical way God's ever—presence and all—power.
