In 1910, after having had trouble with my eyes for quite...
In 1910, after having had trouble with my eyes for quite a while, I went to a physician, who informed me that I should have an operation performed on both eyes. Not having sufficient faith in this physician's ability, I consulted a specialist. He too considered an operation necessary, since the film would otherwise cover the eyes, as a membrane extended from the outer corner of both eyes across the eyeballs. I had medical treatment for two weeks, and a couple of months later had to submit to an operation, followed by another two weeks' treatment; but this proved a failure. I therefore went to Tubingen and had another operation performed on the left eye. This also failed to improve the condition. Three months later I went to Stuttgart for a third operation, the course of treatment this time lasting seven weeks. The pain and suffering I went through during that period is beyond description. A part of a rabbit's eye was sewed into mine, but was removed after three weeks; then a part of the inside of my under lip was cut out for the same purpose, but I had no sooner returned home than the old condition manifested itself again.
I then heard of Christian Science through my sister-in-law, whose daughter had been healed of insanity, and the thought came to me at once that I might be freed of my affliction by this means. When the Christian Science practitioner called again at the home of my sister-in-law, I expressed the desire to have a talk with her, and from that moment on I knew with a certainty whence cometh true help, for I experienced an improvement after the first conversation. I began doing a good deal of reading in the Herold, and upon my request the practitioner gave me several treatments. Today I am completely healed, and my sight is good.
I give thanks to God daily, and praise Him for having led me in the way of Truth, for without Christian Science I would have been looking forward to total blindness. I am also deeply grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the good which I have received through her teachings.
