About four years ago, when Christian Science was first...
About four years ago, when Christian Science was first presented to me by a sister in England, I thought the teaching was too good to be true, but now I am thankful for the understanding that only the good is true. At that time I seemed to be all alone in the world, without a God and without hope. I longed to find some one who could enlighten me as to the why and wherefore of the awful inconsistencies of this world; but whenever I broached the subject of God, I found a cold shoulder turned upon me, until I was in utter despair. I then proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," for in thus turning wholly away from man to God, I found Him in Christian Science, a God who is Love, an ever present help.
This concept of God has brought healing to me, spiritually, morally, physically, and financially. Whereas I was formerly never well, although constantly taking medicine, I now enjoy almost perfect health. While I then could not sew or read without suffering intensely with my head and eyes, since taking up the study of Science and Health I have been able to use my eyes as much and as long as I wished, without any ill effects. Chronic stomach disorders, liver trouble, neuralgia, nervousness, and other ailments that made life a burden, have disappeared through the slight understanding of this teaching that I have already gained. Having in Christian Science a basis upon which to work, I am finding it a present possibility to love my enemies and return good for evil, something I could not do before.
About two years ago my husband experienced a quick and complete healing. One day he assisted a fellow worker to cross the road, the man being so crippled with rheumatism that he could not get across unaided, though he had been treated for this disease in the hospital for six weeks or more. The next day my husband found it impossible to move in bed on account of rheumatism. He lay for some hours undecided what treatment he should choose, but having watched the case of his comrade under materia medica, he decided to try Christian Science, so he asked me to telephone to a practitioner from whom he knew I had received much comfort and help.
