The notion that Christian Science is based on suggestion...

Terre Haute (Ind.) Star

The notion that Christian Science is based on suggestion could be held only by those who are misinformed or uninformed as to what Christian Science teaches, because Christian Science is the opposite of suggestion.

Suggestion, of which hypnotism, mesmerism, psychology, and their like, are but modifications, is based on the theory that man exists separate and apart from God; it is the Adam-dream of many minds, and that one human mind governs another human mind; it is the belief of life in matter, and that man is controlled by conflicting forces or laws. Our brother, whose statement calls forth this letter, points out that suggestion can be used for both good and evil, and Christian Science boldly declares that for this reason the whole thing is evil and not of God, and its use for any purpose can bring no permanent benefit. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has brought out in many different ways the thought expressed on page 103 of Science and Health: "The malicious form of hypnotism [suggestion] ultimates in moral idiocy."

Christian Science reveals the great truth that God is Mind, and that the real man is the reflection or expression of Mind, and is governed only by the law of Mind; the same Mind to which St. Paul referred as being in Christ Jesus. Christian Science is capable of no misuse, and its teaching and practice uplift, purify, and benefit all mankind. An understanding of God as set forth in Christian Science destroys the seeming power and evil results of suggestion.
