It is from a heart overflowing with gratitude that I bear testimony to the healing and uplifting efficacy of Christian Science. I had been a great sufferer for more than twenty years; in fact I had almost every disease poor mortals are heir to, such as lung trouble, neuralgia, organic heart disease, kidney, stomach, and bowel disorders, also female trouble, from which I suffered constantly for twenty-two years. A noted physician claimed that nothing but an operation could give me any relief, and this could never be performed on account of the heart trouble. I had taken the strongest remedies for many years, had been addicted to the almost constant use of an opiate for over four years, and also used snuff. We had spent everything we had; we had tried change of climate and every known material remedy, but there was not a ray of hope left; all was dark despair.

I had been a Bible student for many years, and during the three years when I was confined to my bed, the Bible was my constant companion. I always found peace and joy from it, and in passing through great sorrow the Holy Spirit was my Comforter; but for several months prior to taking up Christian Science it seemed that God had forsaken me. There were times when everything was blank. I felt that my time on earth was short, but I had reached the place where I did not want to die, and I prayed earnestly to be made reconciled to go if it were God's will. I had always been taught that when all material remedies failed it was not God's will for us to live, and we should be submissive to His will. My greatest desire was to do what He would have me do, yet the clouds seemed to grow darker and thicker each day.

This was my condition when Christian Science found me nearly seven years ago. I shall never forget my first treatment. The practitioner's countenance, beaming with love and compassion, brought me a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven. She told me of a God who is Love, who is ever with His children and gives them only good. My whole consciousness was flooded with love, and one by one the shackles fell and man's rich heritage as a child of God was revealed. I could tell of many demonstrations in our home, but suffice it to say that Christian Science meets our every need. Our home used to be quite an apothecary shop, but now our medicine is divine Mind, and I can speak in the language of the psalmist when he said: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."
