For six months previous to becoming interested in Christian Science...
For six months previous to becoming interested in Christian Science my thought had been much disturbed, and my constant prayer had been for more light. For several years I had suffered severely from rheumatism, and while lying in bed the thought came with a great deal of bitterness that I was an invalid for life and dependent. Immediately I knelt, asking God with all my heart what to do, and instantly the answer came, Go to Christian Science. Although I had heard of this teaching I knew nothing about it, but feeling satisfied that I was being led, a few days later I consulted a Christian Science practitioner. I commenced to attend the services at once, going to my own church to teach in the Sunday school and from there to the Christian Science church.
After a while error tried to turn me back, saying I had taken up with strange people of whom I knew nothing. On returning home from a Wednesday evening meeting I prayed to God for an understanding of Christian Science, and Paul's counsel came to me: "Let that mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Then I felt perfectly satisfied. The following Sunday night, there being no service at the Christian Science church, I went to my own church. The minister preached on the second coming of Christ. He said that the time for the second appearing is now; all prophecy has been fulfilled, and we may expect any day to see him coming in the clouds. It was with difficulty that I could refrain from rising and saying, He has come! When the service closed and the last hymn was being sung, I found that my voice, which had been almost lost, had returned.
Fourteen years have elapsed since the glad day on which I found Christian Science, and my healing has been permanent. It may be that the truth has unfolded slowly, but so clear and convincing is the light that I can say I know Christian Science is the truth. If I could not secure another copy of Science and Health, there is not wealth enough in the world to buy mine. I feel that I can never be grateful enough to our dear Leader for all she suffered and endured to give the truth to the world as it was given to her.
