Four years ago it was my privilege to become acquainted...
Four years ago it was my privilege to become acquainted with the truth as revealed in Christian Science, and it has wrought such a wonderful change in my consciousness, and therefore in my life, that I take this opportunity of expressing through our periodicals my deep gratitude for all the good I have received.
It was not for relief from physical disease that I was led to seek aid from Christian Science, but because of a mental state which made me dissatisfied and intensely unhappy, a condition that I often used to wish might be exchanged for some bodily ill. I was of a supersensitive nature, which Christian Science has shown me how to overcome, and was given to brooding over many of the sadder conditions of mortal experience. Then I was brought face to face with very inharmonious conditions in our home, so that like Job I cursed the day I was born. Nevertheless, having always been deeply interested in all religious and philosophical subjects, I searched book after book dealing with explanations of the Bible, for I believed that the true help could be found only in the Scriptures. I prayed to be shown the way to harmony, and endeavored to say with sincerity, "Thy will be done," although believing like others who have not learned the truth as presented in the writings of our beloved Leader, that it was God's will for me to remain as I was.
My prayer was answered during a business trip in the United States. Out of mere curiosity I picked up a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel in the lobby of a hotel in Tiffin, Ohio. It took but a few minutes to be convinced that I had found that for which I had many years been searching, and I eagerly devoured the pages devoted to testimonies of healing. From that moment I never once doubted that Christian Science was the truth. In response to a request sent to Boston for the address of a practitioner in Chicago, I received a copy of the Journal, but as I was then proceeding to Madison, Wis., I took no further steps in the matter until I arrived there, when no time was lost in calling upon a practitioner, who patiently and lovingly started me on my journey from sense to Soul.
