I wish to express my deep gratitude for the many blessings...
I wish to express my deep gratitude for the many blessings received through Christian Science. It is over twelve years since I first heard of the truth that makes free from sickness and sin. At that time I was suffering from what the doctors called Bright's disease and dropsy of the heart. I do not think I ever knew what a well day was until I came into Christian Science. I had been under the care of many physicians, but without any lasting benefit, until I finally grew discouraged and gave up doctors altogether, for the more medicine I took the worse I became. One of my neighbors asked me one day if I believed healing could be done now the same as when Jesus was on earth. I said that I did, for God is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever." She then told me that her sister-in-law, a Christian Scientist, was visiting her, and she would send her to see me. It was through this lady that I sent for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. After reading the chapter Footsteps of Truth, I, who had known nothing but suffering, was free, and I knew myself as God's child. Since then I have had many beautiful demonstrations.
One evening I happened to be alone and was looking over some Sentinels, when a queer feeling passed over me and I thought I would get Science and Health. As I left my chair these words came to me as clearly as if some one had spoken them in my ear: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God." That was all I knew, and how long I lay unconscious I cannot tell. My one conscious thought was a declaration of the truth. When I regained consciousness I was covered with a cold sweat like death, and it was a hard fight, but I knew God was with me. About midnight I fell asleep, and at three in the morning I awoke, healed. The next day a Christian Science friend called to see me and I told her of my experience. She exclaimed, "Why, there is not a trace of it now;" and there was not, for I got up the morning after the attack and did my work as usual.
I was healed of a bad case of rheumatism about four years ago. It was a severe struggle for a day and a night, but the ailment left me very suddenly, never to return. In the summer of 1914 I was seized with appendicitis. When I had a similar attack about twenty years ago, a doctor attended me for two weeks, and I suffered untold agony. This time I was all right in twenty-four hours, and was up and doing my own work the next day.
