In reply to the article in a recent issue containing the address of Dr. Victor C. Vaughan, president, before the annual convention of the American Medical Association at Atlantic City, permit me to say that although enemies of Christian Science may endeavor to misrepresent it and confuse it with superstitious practices of both the past and the present, they are failing miserably to explain to this questioning age the fact that Christian Science is healing every disease known to the world today, many of them reported by the medical profession to be absolutely incurable. In addition to the healing of disease, Christian Science is proving to be equally efficacious in the work of moral regeneration. To be healed physically by Christian Science, is to be made better mentally and morally.

The "fanaticism and ignorance of the dark ages" to which our critic refers, have no place in the teachings and practice of Christian Science, any more than they had in the teachings and practice of Christ Jesus, and Christ Jesus certainly practised the Science of Christianity, or Christian Science. No one would dare to accuse the Founder of being a fanatic or an ignoramus. Christian Science has simply reaffirmed to the people of the twentieth century what Christ Jesus gave to the world in the first century.
