I feel it a duty and a privilege to relate some of the blessings which I have received through Christian Science, with the hope that others may be helped thereby. It is now over six years since I first became interested in this subject through the visit of a relative from America. She wished to attend the Christian Science church in Manchester and asked me if I would go along with her; but this first service did not appeal to me. However, some time later, having badly cut my finger, I jokingly asked her what Christian Science would do in such a case. Help being most kindly offered and accepted, the wound was completely healed within a quarter of an hour, although prior to this time I had always been much troubled with the healing of flesh wounds. I have since relied solely upon this truth which Jesus taught would set us free, and have not missed a day from work through sickness of any kind.
Through the study of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the fear of becoming a slave to the drink habit, to which the male side of my family had been addicted for several generations, was completely destroyed. The smoking habit also left me after I had indulged in it about fourteen years, and an attack of illness was overcome in a few hours. A most severe cold, which eventually found me so weak that one morning upon rising from bed I collapsed, was cured, for in this final extremity came the healing thought: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good" (Science and Health, p. 393). Again, in the case of a growth which appeared on my face for twelve months, though I failed to meet this condition myself, I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and within a month it entirely disappeared.
For the physical help I am indeed grateful, but for the fuller knowledge of God as ever present, no words of mine can sufficiently express the gratitude I feel is due to the one who was pure enough to perceive and prove that Christ, Truth, is ever available for all mankind here and now.
