These words of Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the...
These words of Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," have proved most precious and true to me in my healing through Christian Science over two years ago. For ten years prior to that time, my health had been constantly failing. The last three years I was almost a complete invalid, a burden to my family and a misery to myself. My troubles were many, but the three which were the dread of all of my physicians were so-called Bright's disease, a malignant growth in the breast, and fainting spells which would last from one to three hours. Besides these there were various other ills, though not so serious as the ones mentioned. I traveled a great deal, seeking relief through change of climate and water, and in search of medical aid that would offer me some encouragement. I had some of the most skilful physicians in five different states, but grew steadily worse under the best treatment they could give me.
Two years prior to my healing in Christian Science, I was operated on in the city of Los Angeles for the growth in the breast; but in a short time I was worse than before, and the doctors offered me no hope whatever. They told me that one of these diseases was bad enough, but that a complication like mine could not be met by medical skill. In addition to materia medica I tried electricity, magnetism, and practically everything brought to my notice, but all to no avail. As a last resort I was advised to try Christian Science, and though very much opposed at first, my condition was such that something had to be done quickly, and there was absolutely nothing else within my knowledge to try; consequently I turned eagerly to Christian Science, even as a drowning man grasps at a straw.
I was at once taken to a practitioner, whose gentle voice and loving words soon won my heart, and step by step I was lifted out of that dark and bottomless pit of despair and error into the light of Truth. I seemed to be born again as I learned to know God in a new way, as a God who is Love and Life, and of a heaven that one does not have to die to reach. Oh, the sweet peace that filled my heart as I was led onward and upward from sickness into health, from death unto life!
