About eight years ago my testimony of a wonderful case of healing was published in the Sentinel, but since that time I have had further demonstration of the power of God through the teaching of Christian Science.

About one hundred yards from my house there was a bridge without any railing, and one night, in coming home when it was very dark and foggy, I met with a serious accident. I had crossed the bridge so often that I thought if I could get my foot on the first plank I would be all right, so I kept feeling my way; but half-way across there was one plank a foot shorter than the others. I happened to be on that side of the bridge, and when I reached that point, over I went, striking my shoulder on a large rock. I lay there, unable to move or even to cry out, but my thought was active, and I called on God to give me power to get home, and He did. I could not open the door, but my daughter came and opened it, and seeing my condition, sent for a doctor. By the time he arrived I could speak. The doctor said that my shoulder was dislocated, also broken in two places, and two of the upper ribs and the collar-bone were broken. He said he would have to use an anesthetic in order to set the bones, but I would not consent to this. He said he could not set them otherwise, but I told him I would allow him to handle the bones without giving any trouble, so he did the best he could. The next morning my sons sent for another doctor, and the two came together, the second one resetting my shoulder.

My daughter then sent to the nearest Christian Science practitioner, thirty miles away, and got help at once. I raised blood for a week, but in six weeks I was able to visit the practitioner, and in the course of two months I insisted on the county commissioners railing the bridge; but they claimed they had no right to do so. I then sued the county for damages, and the county employed a doctor to see how much I would be affected in the future by the injury. The two doctors who had set my bones, and the one employed by the commissioners, each stated under oath that I could never use that shoulder as before. The court gave me damages and ordered the bridge to be railed.
