It is in gratitude to God that I wish to tell others how I...

It is in gratitude to God that I wish to tell others how I was led to Christian Science. My husband had suffered severely for two years and a half with what was pronounced tubercular disease of the lungs, and soon after he passed on, in the latter part of October, 1911, a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science fell into my hands while at the home of an acquaintance. I began to read it, and as a number of things appealed to me, I borrowed this copy. I did not merely glance it over, but read it through most carefully, until it gradually became evident to me that God was leading me in order that I might help my child, a ten-year-old boy, who, according to the medical opinion, had inherited lung trouble from his father. He had been taken ill three times with inflammation of the lungs, besides frequent attacks of bronchial trouble. Shortly before my husband passed on, I had the boy examined once more by the physician, who told me that he must be taken to a southern climate in order to save his life. After reading the Herold I soon communicated with a Christian Science practitioner, who referred me to another one. This lady took up treatment for my son, and the following winter proved to be the first during which he was exempt from lung trouble. He has remained in good health ever since, and has also grown much stronger.

Soon after treatment was begun, an eruption appeared on the boy's feet. The practitioner assured me that Truth would overcome this condition, and this was realized in about six months. My thirteen-year-old son had a severe attack of rheumatism, and the lady of the boarding-house where he lived informed me of his illness and asked me to come to see him. At four o'clock in the afternoon I found him suffering much pain, especially in the knees and ankles. I went at once to the practitioner, who began to treat him about five o'clock. I expected to take him home in a carriage the next day, but I received a postal card from him, telling me that half an hour after I had left the day before the pain suddenly disappeared. On the second day, after the second treatment, the swelling subsided, and on the third day he was able to go back to school.

With regard to financial conditions, I may say that God has provided for me and sent me what I have needed, and cares and worries are things of the past. Truth has established within me a sense of peace and joyfulness for which I will be thankful all the days of my life, and I will pray that He may lead me onward to a growing understanding of the power of Truth. I am also deeply grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has shown us the way to salvation, to peace and joy, the way of right understanding.
