[Written for the Sentinel]

Thine is the Kingdom

Thine is the kingdom; so where'er we look
All things bespeak a Father's loving care;
Decay and discord, sin, disease, and death—
No dark dream shadows find a refuge there.

Thine is the kingdom. Open Thou our eyes
To see the vision of celestial bliss;
Here all around us, if we did but know,
Earth's fairest Eden could not vie with this.

Thine is the kingdom; so no serpent's trail
Lies with its curse o'er nature's varied scene;
No savage beast or baneful weed can bring
Discord or death where Love hath ever been.

Thine is the kingdom. How, then, can we lack
Gifts that we know a Father's love Provides?
Now, as old, the hungry may be fed;
All wealth is his who in his God abides.

Thine is the kingdom. Let the earth rejoice,
For Io, waste places blossom as the rose!
We wake to find man's birthright here is peace,
And God is nigh to him who truly knows.
