It has long been my wish to add my testimony to those...
It has long been my wish to add my testimony to those which appear in the Sentinel. I cannot be sufficiently thankful for all Christian Science has done for me. I was on a visit to an aunt when it was first brought to my notice by a lady caller, and it appealed to me at once, as I had for some time been desirous of finding a religion that would meet my daily needs. I did not, when I first heard of Christian Science, come to it for physical healing, but for the spiritual uplift, which was felt at once, the mental healing or purifying being, after all, according to my understanding, the most important. I saw that a clean, pure mind, free from all unkind thoughts, must make a healthy body. I had been studying Science and Health for some months when I had a bad attack of illness, an inflammation of the joints, which is a most painful complaint. I was much disappointed when I found I could not overcome this ailment without help, but afterward I was led to see the good, even in this, since the practitioner to whom I went for help was wise enough to point out wherein I had failed. In a few days I was completely healed, and for this I am most grateful to God, and also to my kind helper.
I am day by day learning that God is indeed a very present help. I am living in a very isolated spot, a small fishing village, where there are no other Scientists, and I look forward with great pleasure to the opportunities I sometimes have of attending the Christian Science services or meeting with other Scientists. It is so great a pleasure, when other duties are not too pressing, to study the Lesson-Sermon or to read the Sentinel, that I am never dull or lonely, God being so near at hand to supply every need that I have no desire for a busier place in which to spend my days. I thank God, and am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy.
