Medina (N. Y.) Journal

A sermon by the Rev. C. Poeckler, published in a recent issue, refers to Christian Science in a way to indicate that its teaching is not understood by him. Without doubting the entire sincerity of the gentleman, I may state that there is every evidence in the sermon that he knows nothing about Christian Science, and consequently subjects it to misrepresentation.

An understanding of Christian Science is to be had by studying the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, which is available to every one. This done, one will never venture the assertion made by this critic, that "the Christian Scientists say the very opposite of what Jesus says." Fortified by a knowledge of the Bible, especially by a spiritual understanding of the words of Jesus, of his disciples, and of Paul, one soon discovers that the teaching of Christian Science accords in every particular with the Scriptures, in precept as well as in practise. The proof of this fact lies in the increased interest in, regard for, and understanding of the Bible, which invariably follows the introduction of Christian Science. This is the testimony of thousands upon thousands everywhere and in all walks of life.
