When I first became interested in Christian Science and...
When I first became interested in Christian Science and attended the Wednesday evening testimonial meetings, I wondered what the people meant when they spoke of the many blessings which had come to them through Christian Science. I had not attended the meetings very long, however, before I found out what was meant, and now I too can testify to the many blessings which have come to me during my thirteen-years sojourn in Christian Science. The first blessing that I remember was the instantaneous healing from stomach trouble of my son, then seven years old, who was later healed of nasal catarrh. My second blessing was in being enabled to lay aside glasses, which I had worn for four years, and this after only one Christian Science treatment. One of the best oculists in Chicago had told me, when I consulted him, that my headache and eye trouble would be cured in three weeks; but this was not so. At the end of that time he informed me that I would have to wear glasses for the rest of my life, and his charges were one hundred dollars.
My blessings through Christian Science treatment, and the earnest, faithful study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, multiplied rapidly. I was cured of hemorrhoids in their severest form. I had had two operations performed for this trouble without any success whatever, as the trouble returned, and the charges of the last specialist were also one hundred dollars. Through the study of our text-book I learned that a surgeon's knife cannot remove the cause of a disease, but rather must this be effected by realizing the power of Truth over error. In Science and Health (p. 366) we read of that "infinite Love which alone confers healing power." I have now been free from hemorrhoids for fully twelve years. Eye, stomach, and nervous troubles, neuralgia, periodical attacks of sore throat, and other ills have vanished one after another. I suffered from boils, one leaving me with a discharge which caused much pain and inconvenience, but through the patient help of a Christian Science practitioner this was fully and finally overcome. In my family of three, no material remedy has been used for the past thirteen years. My son, who is now twenty years of age, has been a regular attendant at the Sunday school as well as the church. He is not familiar with any disease whatsoever, and knows nothing of the symptoms of even the most prevalent ailments.
What I consider one of my greatest blessings is, that Christian Science has taught me to love the Bible. It has become my daily companion, for our text-book has so illumined its pages that I can only liken it to a gold mine. I now know that it is full of hidden treasures, but one must dig and search for the truth as one searches for gold. In Jeremiah we read, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
