Christian Science certainly does teach that to the Mind...

Blackpool (England) Gazette News

Christian Science certainly does teach that to the Mind which was in Christ Jesus, sin was an illusion, as our Saviour himself described it when he declared, "Your father the devil, ... abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him;" but Christian Science also declares that the sinner makes a reality of sin, and nowhere in her teaching does Mrs. Eddy state that sin is not a reality as far as mortals are concerned. In fact, she declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 203), that "sin kills the sinner and will continue to kill him so long as he sins." Of our critic's other remarks, there is only one that need be noticed, and that is his statement that Christian Science is akin to theosophy, spiritualism, etc. Theosophy and spiritualism are just about as much like Christian Science as our critic's own statements are like the truth about Christian Science, and that is, that they have absolutely nothing in common with it. Christian Science teaches the ever-presence of that one Mind or cause which men call God, and which is the same today, yesterday, and forever, and the utter falsity of any other so-called mind. Both theosophy and spiritualism teach and believe in different states and stages of this so-called mind, and deal purely in the action of the human mind. They are, therefore, direct opposites.

Today, the Christian Science movement is spreading over the whole world in a way that no other religion has ever done, calling on men and women to recognize the reality and permanence of spiritual things, and the utter falsity of so-called material conditions. It is everywhere healing the sick and reforming the sinner, in pursuance of Christ Jesus' direct commands and in demonstration of his teachings. It is showing mankind clearly that as there is but one cause, and that infinite good, there can be but one effect, and the effect must be like its cause, spiritual and perfect; and that the material sense of being is simply a false sense of being, which can be corrected through the understanding of that one cause and its effect, or what our Saviour termed "the truth." It is revealing that ever-present law "of the Spirit of life," which makes "free from the law of sin and death," and is teaching men to love and to appreciate as they never did before the teachings of the Bible. In fact, it is showing them that their salvation from every form of evil depends not on human theories, but on a correct understanding of the Bible. Its adherents are drawn from every walk of life and from every profession. It comes preaching the power and availability of good to deliver from every form of evil.

The attacks made upon this teaching have no power to interfere with this gospel; in fact, they compel honest people to find out what Christian Science really is. The Christian Science movement establishes an average of one hundred new churches in a year. If the critical brother will do as the Christian Science church is doing, that is, leave other people's religions alone, and try to save humanity by proving that true religion heals the sick and the sinning now, even as it did nineteen hundred years ago, he will be able to help his church.
