I send this testimony to express my gratitude for Christian Science,...
I send this testimony to express my gratitude for Christian Science, and with the hope that it may help some one who, like myself, is in a foreign land and in need of the great truth. But how shall I tell of all the blessings I have received? I first heard of Christian Science from an American lady who had received a letter from her mother-in-law, telling her that sickness need not be, and that God is Love and Life. Can any one imagine what this meant to one who had been sentenced by physicians to invalidism for life?
When my mother and I reached home, I immediately told my father what I had heard. I exclaimed, "Well, father, when God is Life, I cannot be sick, for God is never sick!" In the first few weeks I had only a copy of the Sentinel for help, and with the words, "God is All, matter is nothing," I began to work, knowing that although I knew but little of the truth, God was with me, and to Him nothing was impossible. At that time I had been ill for more than nine months with stomach and bowel trouble, and every two or three months there appeared a throat difficulty, malaria, and some other ailments. At the end of the first week the stomach and bowel disorder left me, and after a while all the other ills disappeared one by one. To describe my thankfulness is impossible; but great as was the physical change, the moral one was even greater.
In October, 1910, while playing with children, I fell and struck my head on a sharp stone wall. The shock was severe, but still I could realize that God is Life and matter is nothing. When the little folks saw me lying motionless on the grass, they began to scream and to say I was dead. Hearing that, I arose, and walked into the house to cleanse the wounds. I had a deep cut on my forehead and one over my left eyelid. After five minutes I again joined the children, who were silent from fright, and as an organ-grinder was appearing, I began to dance with them, so their cheerfulness returned. In the night the wound over my eyelid closed, as did the one on my forehead the next day.
