In Science and Health we read these words: "Spiritual Love will force you to accept what best promotes your growth" (p. 266). I might say that I did not seek Christian Science, but that I was forced into it by the failure of every other means to which I had looked for health. It was in the fall of 1907 that I decided to give Christian Science a trial, as a kind of last resort. I had been a semi-invalid for about thirteen years, during which time I underwent one operation and spent six months in hospitals. It seemed to me that I could not live without medicine, but I finally decided to "throw physic to the dogs," as the saying is.

I was very particular to state to the practitioner who consented to take my case, that if it was necessary for me to have faith it was useless for her to try to help me; but she said that I did not know what to have faith in, and she seemed very certain that God would heal me. My recovery seemed slow at times, but I knew I had found the truth, and that sooner or later divine Love would set me free, and I can now say that I am completely healed, and have been in good health for over three years.

Christian Science means everything to me, for through it I have the realization of the ever-presence of God, which has made my life rich in happiness and contentment.
