My attention has been drawn to a letter appearing in the Sind Gazette regarding the experience of one of the officers of the Titanic at the time the vessel was wrecked, in which the question is raised as to whether people believing in Christian Science alone are saved from harm. It is a little difficult to accept the question seriously, as a reference to the report of the catastrophe will give a reply; but it may be explained that the teachings of Christian Science render it possible for the student to develop a demonstrable faith in the practical protection of divine power in every emergency, by dispelling ignorance of God, and His relationship to His creatures.

This ignorance is exemplified when such disasters as the loss of the Titanic are popularly termed "acts of God" by those who, with the disciple John, claim that "God is love." Since it is inconceivable that Love can permit disaster to overtake those living to the best of their understanding in accordance with the law of the creator, it is not unreasonable to conclude that this law is misconceived by many who are trying to govern their lives thereby and who yet fail to receive the protection attending a knowledge of the truth. To obtain a correct knowledge of the truth it is necessary to study the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth, who bore full witness to the truth, and in the light of Christian Science these teachings make clear the method of escape from all inharmonious conditions.
