After having studied the Bible for some time, and compared...
After having studied the Bible for some time, and compared its ideals and requirements with the lives of professed followers of Christ Jesus, which with few exceptions did not seem to me to come into line with it, I became quite dissatisfied with the church as it exists, and on this account could not connect myself with any particular branch of it, but went in search of an ideal one, going the whole round, staying some time in each, but receiving very little satisfaction. I continued to go about with a hungry heart until Christian Science was brought to my notice. I had found in the Bible a great storehouse of glorious promises, but I could not get any direct results which I could attribute to answers to my prayers. Now I do get direct results, and sometimes immediately. I had been told that I must take God at His word, but when a hungry man is chained to a post, even if within sight of a well-spread table, it is not enough to tell him to take and eat; the thing to do is to show him how to break his fetters. Christian Science is doing this for me! Spiritually hungry, I had seen the table spread, but could not find my way to it; now I have not only found an approach, but I find many new and precious things prepared for our need. Belief and blind faith are being lost in the understanding of God, and man is appearing as created in the divine image and likeness, and thus I am finding my resurrection into newness of life.
Spiritual thought is the grandest restorative of the body that I have ever met, and the troubles of the flesh are fading out. I had been plagued for a number of years with indigestion, and the ailment had become so acute that I was compelled to keep some drug with me wherever I went. Life had begun to seem a burden, but all the time I felt certain that God could not create nor find pleasure in the suffering of men. When observing animals, I noticed how comparatively free they were from the troubles that upset mankind, and yet man is supposed to be superior to them. I felt that there was some mistake, and that there must be a way out of it. Thanks be to God, I have found the way; spiritual hunger is being satisfied, and bodily troubles are met and overcome. As we read in Isaiah: "An highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein ... and the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away."
God has in these days, through a faithful servant, Mrs. Eddy, revealed anew this way. Christian Science is demonstrated Christianity, as all may taste and see. I have proved Christian Science for over seven years, and have found for myself that it is true Christianity and true Science. It points the way that Jesus led, and it is Science because it is based on Principle, on God. All these years we have used no material remedies in our home, all discords being overcome through the Christ Science, Christ with us.
