I notice, in the Express, an account of the visit of the Bishop of Southwell to Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham. In reply to a question put by the bishop, Canon Holbrook is reported to have said that some of his parishioners had ceased attending the church owing to their having become interested in Christian Science, the reason given by the canon being that they "imagined they have been cured of various things." May I be permitted to point out that even if these good people had been suffering from merely imaginary ailments, it would surely be cause for gratitude that they should now be free from them.

The fact is, however, that Christian Science is daily healing innumerable cases of disease which had been previously carefully diagnosed by thoroughly competent physicians. In such cases there is clearly no imagination necessary, and the healing of these cases by Christian Science is merely the practical and inevitable result of an earnest and conscientious study of the teachings of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy. It is true that many complaints may be classed under the heading of hypochondria, and it is well known that materia medica has little to offer by way of relief for such cases, while Christian Science includes among the long list of diseases it has healed, many cases not only of hypochondria, but of functional and organic disease as well.

If, as Canon Holbrook pointed out, one or two of his parishioners who have ceased attending his church were "helpful workers," would it not be justifiable to assume that they were intelligent citizens, capable of forming correct conclusions? and, if so, it would hardly seem reasonable that they should be considered so lacking in sound judgment as to become interested in Christian Science except for a good reason. Christian Science is based wholly on the Bible, and proves with irrefutable logic that the healing of sickness and the destruction of sin must be the inevitable outcome of a correct understanding of and willingness to practise the teachings of Christ Jesus. Here, then, is the reason why so many thousands of men and women throughout the world are grateful for Christian Science.
