I have been a beneficiary of the teachings of Christian Science...
I have been a beneficiary of the teachings of Christian Science since the spring of 1907, at which time I experienced, in Los Angeles, Cal., an instantaneous healing of an acute condition from which I had been suffering for several weeks and which had not been relieved through the medical remedies given me by a physician. I was somewhat interested in Christian Science at the time, as one of my sisters had become a Christian Scientist, but I had not felt that I needed it, as I was satisfied with the religious belief in which I had been brought up, and especially with the philanthropic work, in which I took an active part. I was, however, so grateful for my healing, and had such a sense of indebtedness, that forthwith I felt it almost an obligation to begin the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and strive to understand the truth it taught.
I lost all desire to return to medicine, although for years I had been an almost constant patient of head and throat specialists; but since my healing in Los Angeles I have depended on Christian Science treatment for the relief of all discordant physical conditions. I did not accept Christian Science gladly, for it reversed all of my dearest beliefs and theories, but I had a conviction that it was the truth and that my accepting it or not accepting it would not affect this truth one iota, though it would affect me very seriously; consequently, I determined to adhere to it. My progress has been very gradual. I had much to weed out of my consciousness, and I am still at work, for there is yet much to overcome and consequently all ills have not yet been met. I can say, however, with entire honesty and sincerity, that I love Christian Science and all it has taught me, and that I desire nothing so much as to abide in and by its teachings and to glorify God in my thoughts, words, and deeds.
For Mrs. Eddy there has been an ever increasing love, and a deep thankfulness fills my heart that through her God could speak to us and reveal again the truth concerning Himself and man. I am very grateful for the Christian Science literature, and it has been my happy experience that whatever my need, or special line of thought, I have always found some helpful article pertinent to the problem with which I was working. The testimonies have also been a source of great encouragement and inspiration to me, for in reading of others' experiences I have many times been helped in my own. For the help given me in Christian Science I feel the deepest gratitude, and in return for all the blessings God has showered upon me through the knowledge of the truth, as I am daily learning it in the study of Christian Science, I pray that I may ever be a loyal and faithful Christian Scientist.
