"UNFETTERED BY HUMAN HYPOTHESES"

During the recent Thanksgiving day service in The Mother Church, the testimony of one among the many who expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the blessings received through Christian Science, brought home to the writer the wonderful receptivity of little children to the truth. A mother arose and said that on behalf of the little ones she desired to voice her gratitude because the truth could be realized so completely by them. She said that recently her little girl, only three years old, came to her and voiced something that might indicate a physical ill. "We will take this to God," the mother told her little girl as she made ready to treat the child. Instantly came an answer from the little one, expressive of her perfect trust that God is "here now," and with that she was off to play. To this mother, such abounding confidence in the power of the Word must have come as an overwhelming proof of the efficacy of Christian Science. The moment the truth was expressed, all sense of discomfort on the part of the child had departed.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in the explanatory note, to be read before the Sunday lesson, how "the canonical writings, together with the word of our text-book ... constitute a sermon ... unfettered by human hypotheses" (Christian Science Quarterly). It may be truly said that in the case of this little girl there were no human hypotheses to fetter her mentality. Her faith in God was all abounding. Many present in The Mother Church must have felt with the writer that here the seed was sown in fertile ground, ready to bring forth rich fruit in its season, with attendant blessings for the family concerned and for the good of the cause of Christian Science.
