The congressional joint committee on printing has discovered that "adulterated" paper has been used for years in the government printing office. A complete new set of government paper standards has been ordered. The paper adulteration was accomplished by the substitution of clay for the more substantial wood or rag fibers. The public printer has been authorized to advertise for bids on twenty-five million six hundred thousand pounds of paper for the year beginning March I next.

Another shipment from Culebra of fossils collected from the excavations on the isthmus will presently be sent to Washington for classification by the government experts there. The collection of tertiary fossils made on the canal work up to the present time is said to be the best that has ever been made in tropical America, and the information given by them and by a study of the rocks in which they occur will mark a new epoch in the geology of Central America.

The five-hundred-dollar limit upon postal savings bank deposits will be removed in the near future, according to statements at the postoffice department. This limit has already been reached by many depositors and the bank trustees have been urged to permit deposits without limitation.
